Project Description

A global leader in animal health has completed a major expansion on the west side of Lincoln, Nebraska. The 1.4-million-square-foot facility spans 145 acres—roughly twice the area of the Vatican—and serves as a critical hub for veterinary pharmaceutical research, development, and manufacturing.

The site includes a specialized vivarium and a Veterinary Medicine R&D registration facility dedicated to developing treatments that alleviate osteoarthritis pain in dogs and cats. The expansion significantly increases Zoetis’ global production capacity while reinforcing its commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship through its “Driven to Care” initiative.

Challenges and Solutions

Providing consistent comfort and environmental stability for the facility’s 950 year-round residents presented a unique HVAC challenge. In addition to maintaining strict environmental conditions, the facility also functions as a vital manufacturing center within Zoetis’ global supply network.

To support these requirements, Hydronic Energy supplied Griswold Controls’ Coil Piping Packages. These pre-assembled piping systems reduce installation time and labor costs while improving system reliability. With more than 900 standard configurations available, the packages connect quickly to HVAC systems with minimal field assembly.

Each package includes QuickSet Manual Balance Valves, which feature a precision venturi for accurate flow measurement, a graduated memory stop, and a Flow Optimizer. These features simplify the static balancing process and ensure consistent hydronic system performance.

Benefits and Outcomes

Integrating Griswold Controls’ hydronic solutions helped streamline the installation process while ensuring long-term HVAC reliability for the facility. The result is a high-performance system capable of supporting sensitive research environments and large-scale pharmaceutical manufacturing operations.

The collaboration between Zoetis, Hydronic Energy, Inc., and Griswold Controls demonstrates how innovative hydronic solutions can support both operational efficiency and sustainable facility design. This project establishes a benchmark for future developments where advanced manufacturing and environmental responsibility work hand in hand.

Products Used

The project incorporated Griswold Controls Coil Piping Packages, which provide a complete, pre-engineered coil connection solution that simplifies installation and improves system integrity.

Additionally, QuickSet Manual Balance Valves were selected for their reliability and precision. Featuring brass venturi inserts for accurate flow measurement and graduated memory stops for consistent flow settings, these valves help maintain optimal system balance and performance.
