Griswold Products Used: Pre-Assembled Coil Hookups (CPP-IRIS) with Isolator R Valves

Project Description

At the forefront of research and education of unsurpassed quality, Princeton University’s Chemical and Biological Engineering Building stands as a testament to the school’s 100-year history of continuous scientific breakthroughs.

With state-of-the-art laboratories and research facilities, the building requires a sophisticated HVAC system that can maintain precise climate control across its various zones, supporting both laboratory activities and the comfort of occupants.

To meet these requirements, Princeton’s facilities staff chose Griswold Controls’ CPP-IRIS Pre-Assembled Coil Hookups with Isolator R Valves.

The coil piping packages were installed on the building’s radiant panels, delivering consistent water flow necessary to maintain optimal temperatures across different spaces. This setup allowed Princeton’s HVAC system to provide both comfort and efficiency, enhancing the environment within one of its most advanced educational buildings.

Challenges and Solutions

With its array of labs, classrooms, and collaborative spaces, the Chemical and Biological Engineering Building at Princeton required a solution that would ensure precise and adaptable temperature control across diverse zones. The primary challenges included:

Maintaining Consistent Temperature in Sensitive Research Spaces. Research labs require stable and precise temperature control to ensure that experiments are conducted in ideal conditions. Given the building’s diverse spaces, the HVAC system needed to be flexible enough to provide reliable climate control across multiple zones.

Energy Efficiency in a High-Demand Environment. With radiant panels throughout the facility, the HVAC system must balance energy efficiency with the constant need for temperature regulation. Unregulated water flow could lead to wasted energy and fluctuations in temperature, affecting both research quality and occupant comfort.

Griswold Controls’ CPP-IRIS Coil Hookups provided a streamlined solution by allowing consistent water flow through the radiant panels. The Isolator R Valves offer automatic flow limiting, enabling the HVAC system to deliver steady temperature control with minimal manual adjustments.

This setup ensured each room received the appropriate water flow to maintain comfort without wasting energy, supporting both precision in research areas and efficiency in shared spaces.

Benefits and Outcomes

The installation of Griswold components brought several significant advantages to the Chemical and Biological Engineering Building’s HVAC system.

The CPP-IRIS Pre-Assembled Coil Hookups, with their precise flow control, allowed Princeton to maintain stable and reliable temperatures across different areas, crucial for sensitive lab environments. This controlled flow ensures that both laboratories and general spaces maintain comfortable temperatures suited to their specific needs.

The automatic flow-limiting function of the Isolator R Valves reduces unnecessary energy consumption by ensuring each area receives only the necessary water flow. This feature contributes to lower energy costs and aligns with Princeton’s sustainability goals, making the HVAC system more cost-effective and environmentally responsible.

Griswold Controls’ products are engineered for durability and minimal maintenance. The automated features of the Isolator R Valves reduce the need for frequent adjustments, allowing facilities staff to focus on other building needs and improving the overall reliability of the HVAC system.
